Roller Hockey Sticks For League Play

I have to admit right here and now – I’m not the world’s expert on roller hockey sticks. But I do have a 13-year-old son who has been playing roller hockey since he was 6 years old, So I believe I have some authority on the subject. I’ll tell you what I know from a purely practical viewpoint, and let you be the judge of the information. Fair enough?

Size The Roller Hockey Stick Correctly

Roller hockey sticks must be sized correctly for the height of the player. After watching hundreds of hockey games, I can tell you that parents are not always on top of their kids’ hockey gear – especially hockey sticks. More often than not, the hockey player will grow out of his or her stick. This is so true as you watch a kid out on the rink who has a hockey stick that would have been too small even last season! Come on, parents – roller hockey is difficult enough without being hampered by a too-small stick. ‘Nuff said on this topic.

Exotic Materials Vs Wood

If you keep the business end of the stick taped up with that special hockey tape (it comes in all kinds of colors, and it is tough as nails) you can make do with a wooden stick for years. Even if your child is a power hitter, that taped-up wooden hockey stick will surprise you with how long it lasts. Maybe that’s why you see so many kids with too short sticks? I suppose if you have extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, then you could go all out and get a composite or a graphite stick – but why?

These hockey sticks can be quite costly, and I don’t see any evidence that they will outlast a good wooden stick.

Consider A Goalie Stick

If your child is a goalie, chances are you might just use the skating rink’s goalie pads, etc. That may be a good call, because the equipment is expensive, and the chances are that your kid will outgrow the goalie outfit before the season is over. But, don’t scrimp on a goalie stick. Especially, a hockey goalie stick that is sized for the height of the player. This may be one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever witnessed in a hockey game: a goalie with a too-short goalie stick. In this situation, you (and the unfortunate goalie) will watch the puck slide through his or her five-hole more times than you care to remember. How about a stick that’s sized for the goalie – please?

Roller hockey sticks don’t have to be expensive or super high-tech to be a great part of your hockey player’s hockey gear.

Roller Hockey – Inline Vs Hardball

Roller hockey is a sport that combines the fun of hockey with the speed of skating. Within the category of roller hockey, there are two types. These include Hardball hockey and Inline hockey. Both of these games are exciting and fast-paced, however they do utilize different equipment, rules, and forms of skating.

Inline hockey is the first version that we will discuss. This game is held in a rectangular rink approximately two hundred feet but one hundred feet. It must be at least one hundred sixty-five feet but sixty-five feet and should be twice as long as it is wide. The surface of these rinks is comprised of wood, asphalt, cement, or plastic. When you look at an inline rink, is set up similarly to an ice hockey rink with two goals and a center red line. The difference is in the puck which is made up of plastic. There are two teams with up to twelve players each. During play, there will only be five players from each team, this includes the goalie. There will also be two goalies on the rink during the game. To score a goal, you must send the puck into the opposing team’s net (crossing over the goal line). A game has four quarters of twelve minutes each. Whoever has the most goals at the end of the game wins.

The next type, Hardball Hockey uses a ball instead of a puck. The stick that is used, is also different from that of inline or ice hockey. It is often called a cane due to its shape. A team is comprised of between six and ten players, but like inline, only five can be on the rink at any time. Scoring is similar with points being awarded for getting the ball into the opposing team’s goal. Players are allowed to stop the ball with any part of their body, excluding their hands. However, they can only resume motion using the cane. Games consist of two twenty-five-minute intervals and the winning team is whoever has the most goals at the end of the game.

Inline hockey is the most popular of the two and the most common. Hardball hockey is played very infrequently so you may never have even seen a game. Both types of hockey, however, are entertaining to watch and play. They have helped make hockey one of the most popular sports and it continues to gain fans and participants every day.

Fast Or Pretty – Choose Your Game When You Choose Your Roller Hockey Skates

Inline hockey, which is played on inline or roller hockey skates, is a bit different than regular ice hockey. You’ll find that just about every piece of equipment is a bit different from the sticks, which are often made of aluminum to the skates, which are on rollers instead of on blades. Usually you’ll find that the cost of the equipment is a good bit cheaper than gear for ice hockey, but you’ll still pay a decent price, starting at about $100 for the right skates for the game. Before you start playing, there are a variety of different things that you need to know, so here is some relevant information that you need to be aware of first.

One of the first things that you need to know is that there is a difference between roller hockey skates that are used for outdoor and indoor use. Of course, you’ll find that most things are essentially the same, but you’ll find that the outdoor ones are going to have wheels that are a whole lot softer. They are designed in this way to help you make sure that you can get a good grip and they also keep you upright even when you skate over pebbles and cracks as well. Usually the indoor wheels are quite a bit harder, since they don’t usually have to go over cracks or pebbles and you don’t need the grip as much indoors.

Another thing that you need to consider is the difference between quad and inline skates when you’re making your choice. This all comes down to personal choice since some find that quad roller hockey skates are easier for them to balance on. Others find that inlines are a whole lot faster. So, you’ll have to check out both to decide which ones work the best for you. Who knows, you may even end up liking both styles and enjoy using them both from time to time.

So, as you can see, it really can make a difference when you’re making your choice as to whether or not you are planning to plan outside or indoors. Make sure you get the right skates for where you are planning to play. Also, you’ll want to figure out whether you are more comfortable with quads or inlines as well before you buy. With this information, you’ll be better equipped to purchase the right roller hockey skates for your needs and comfort.
